Sniper Elite 4 Low FPS, Crashes, SLI, DLC and Sound Issues Guide

Sniper Elite 4 is the new addition to the successful Sniper Elite series. Although, the quality of this port is very nice, there are a few quirks here and there. If you are one of the early adopters of Sniper Elite 4, you might face some crashes, FPS drops, and errors while playing the game.

In this post, I have listed out some of the common fixes for the problems that you may face while playing. But before starting with fixing stuff on your computer, you may want to check out the system requirements. If your PC is below the official minimum system requirements, you’ll have fps drops and overall bad experience.

System Requirements

Minimum System Requirments

OS: 64-bit Windows 7, 64-bit Windows 8.1 or 64-bit Windows 10

Processor: Intel CPU Core i3-2100 or AMD equivalent

Memory: 4 GB RAM

Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 7870 (2GB) or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 (2GB)

Recommended System Requirments

OS: 64-bit Windows 7, 64-bit Windows 8.1 or 64-bit Windows 10

Processor: Intel CPU Core i7-3770 or AMD equivalent

Memory: 8 GB RAM

Graphics: Nvidia GPU GeForce GTX 970 / AMD GPU Radeon RX 480

Before you try any of these fixes, you should first update the drivers for your graphic cards. ?Both AMD and Nvidia have released newest drivers for Sniper Elite 4. These “Day 1” drivers can improve performance and provide overall stable experience while playing.

Sniper Elite 4 Low FPS, Bad Performance

On some PCs, Sniper Elite 4 by default runs on low priority. I don’t know if this is some weird bug of some sort, but that’s what a lot of people are complaining about. If you are having lots of FPS drops and overall choppy gameplay on your PC, set the process priority for the game to High.

You can use Windows Task Manager to adjust the priority for the game. One more thing that you can do to improve in-game FPS is to set Vsync to Adaptive instead off Fixed.

Sniper Elite 4 Crash, Not Starting Fix

Like most Windows games, Sniper Elite 4 also uses the C++ libraries to run. While Steam sometimes installs them automatically, there are chances that your PC may not have them. To fix the crashing and not starting issues, download and install the Visual C++ runtime library for your OS.

You can also try switching between DX11 and DX12 from the graphics settings of the game. For some games, DX12 has consistently proved to be less stable and causes a lot of crashes while playing.

Sniper Elite 4 only supports DX11 and DX12 to render (draw) graphics. If your graphics card is a few years older, chances are that it may not support DX11 or DX12. Unfortunately, there is no fix for this error, because this is a limitation of your PC’s hardware. You will need to either upgrade your graphics card or skip the game entirely.

Sniper Elite 4 Loading Problems

If you are stuck on loading the game, try disabling the DLCs for the game. This problem is common for the people who have bought the Season Pass, Target Führer, and the Camouflage Rifles Skin Pack.

Disable the DLCs and try restarting the game. The loading problem will go away.

Sniper Elite 4 Mouse Pointer Not Visible

Mouse pointer problem is simple to fix in Sniper Elite 4. You can use Windows compatibility layer to make the game adapt to your computer.

  • Create a shortcut for Sniper Elite 4 on your Desktop.
  • Right-click on the shortcut and open Properties.
  • Go to Compatibility tab and check the “Run this program in Compatibility mode for:“.
  • In the drop-down list, select Windows 7 and click the OK button.
  • Run the game, and your mouse should now be visible.

Sniper Elite 4 Disable Checkpoints

On a higher difficulty setting like Authentic, the Sniper Elite 4 provides more challenge than beginner ones. But, the autosave checkpoints system can ruin the experience because, by default, the autosaves are very frequent.

Unfortunately, right now, there is no way to disable these automatic save points in the game. You can try using the three rollback saves in case you die in-game to ‘artificially’ increase the difficulty.

How to Adjust FOV

Sniper Elite 4 natively doesn’t support FOV slider in the graphics settings. I’m not sure if you can adjust the FOV by editing the config ini files for the game. Meanwhile, you can try using the flawlesswidescreen hack to adjust the FOV. See how that works.

Sniper Elite 4 SLI Support

Right now, there is no official SLI support in the game. But, the game runs fine with two GPUs at the same time. To use SLI (unofficially), use the Sniper Elite 3 profile from Nvidia.

Sniper Elite 4 Enable Borderless Windowed Mode

There is native support for windowed mode, so enabling borderless windowed mode shouldn’t be much problem for the devs. You shouldn’t however, hold your breath waiting for that. In the meantime, you can try Borderless Gaming app which works flawlessly for most games.

Enable DLC in Sniper Elite 4

To enable DLCs in Sniper Elite 4, you first need to buy them.

Once you have the DLCs in your library, open the Single player campaign menu. Go to the Mission list. You’ll see all your DLCs listed there.
